James Lee Staten, 92, died tragically Saturday, January 16, 2021, in a house fire. He was born July 24, 1928, in Union County, Mississippi, to Jesse Lee and Sybil Elizabeth King Staten. He was married to Annie Jones Staten who preceded him in death April 21, 2018. Mr. Staten served his country in the U. S. Navy stationed in Washington D. C. from 1947 until 1952. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Mr. Staten, a retired employee of the Union County Board of Supervisors, was a passionate horse rider, enjoying nothing better than a good trail ride with his many horse-riding buddies. He is survived by two sons, Larry and Jimmy Staten, both of New Albany; one sister, Martha Jane George of Southaven, Mississippi; his beloved grandson Shane Staten, son of Jimmy Staten; three granddaughters, Larry Staten's children, Helen Rowe and husband, Byron Rowe, Jessye Barnett and husband Matthew Barnett, and Lori Anne Ables and husband, Justin Ables; one great grandson, Connor Thomas Staten, son of Shane Staten; and two great granddaughters, Naomi Anne Ables and Elizabeth Ables, daughters of Lori Anne Ables. Mr. Staten's funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P. M., Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Cotton Plant. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time, Sunday. Reverend Bill Everett and Reverend Randy Kolb will officiate, burial will follow in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pall bearers are Brad Prewett, Dewayne Cummings, Josh Wagner, Donnie McCullough, Bill Parks, and Matthew Barnett. Honorary pall bearers are Lee Greer, David McClure, Dr. John Hindman, Benny Little, Rubin Beatty, Butch Hutchinson, Alvin Aston, Larry Ligon, Joe Tate, Rodney Davis, Wayne Hatcher, Bill Barkley, and Edwin Dees. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT DONATIONS BE MADE TO THE EBENEZER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CEMETERY FUND.
