Richard Isaac Sanford, 71, died at his residence in the Keownville community on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. He was born in Union County on January 20, 1946, the son of Irvin M. and Modell Duncan Sanford. Richard was a Baptist, a retired carpenter, and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during the Viet Nam war. He loved to fish. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 P. M. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Brother Don Wilson and Brother Ron Cottom will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 A. M. until service time Friday, at the church. Active pallbearers are Zach Sanford, Matthew Bell, Brent Bullock, Craig Allred, Joe Spencer, and Olin Hall. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Bell, Andrew Sanford, and Jace Sanford. Survivors include his wife, Nelta Sanford of New Albany, daughter, Jennifer Bell (Rick) of New Albany, two sons, Ricky (Lisa) Sanford and Justin (Casey) Sanford all of West Union; brother, Bruce Sanford of New Albany; five sisters, Betty Hall, Mackie Spencer, Georgia Allred, and Phyllis Hill all of New Albany, and Brenda Bullock of Pleasant Ridge; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sue Ellis Sanford; a brother J. W. Sanford; and a sister, Linda Forester.
