Jerry Loyd Bennett, a beloved figure in both his professional and personal spheres, departed this world on November 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy woven with compassion, dedication, and love. Born on September 17, 1965, in Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry's journey through life was marked by meaningful connections and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
Graduating from Collierville High School, Jerry laid a solid foundation for a life filled with purpose. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1990, a testament to his commitment and his sense of duty to his country. Following his military service, Jerry devoted many years of his life to his career at Lowes in New Albany, Mississippi, where he found not just work, but a family among his coworkers. Jerry's heart swelled with affection for these friends, who he considered his second family, particularly cherishing his bond with Mack McDonald, whom he regarded as a brother.
Beyond the confines of work, Jerry's spirit resonated through the love he had for animals, particularly dogs. A dedicated advocate for their well-being, he worked tirelessly with the Tunica Humane Society, driven by a passion for rescuing those in need. The countless dogs he helped reflected his deep compassion for all living beings. Known for his ever-present University of Tennessee hat, Jerry wore his volunteer spirit with pride, embodying a warmth that drew people in and inspired them to follow in his footsteps of kindness.
Left to carry on his memory are his beloved son, Chad Bennett, residing in Colorado Springs, Colorado; his devoted sister, Gail Baird (Billy); and the caring presence of Denise Bennett, his caregiver. Jerry is predeceased by his father, Jimmy Bennett, and his mother, Beatrice Lindsey Bennett, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany, Mississippi, on January 19, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM. This gathering will serve as a heartfelt tribute to a gentle soul whose love extended far beyond the reach of this life—a life lived to its fullest, enriched by true connections and a profound love for all creatures. Jerry Loyd Bennett will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
